midnight motorway noises

You waited, and eventually I came back: teary-eyed but wiser and emboldened from the other, ready to share my life with you again. I wondered if I'd be left wanting after such an exhilarating affair, I wondered if we'd jigsaw together like before. You never asked about it, so it wasn't mentioned and I was so glad.

That first evening you shook the bedsheets out fresh; casting the ripples of fabric out then inviting them flat and we slept soundly, sung lullaby by the hushes of traffic outside and dreaming vividly of sliding the Clyde like a flume and holding my nose as I splashed into the Atlantic.

"You and I, old friend", I whisper close the next morning before I turn away.
